There’s a carefree brightness about this corner of Strathspey, where a low stone bridge hops the River Feshie and a neat cottage basks in its own sun‑trap glade. Long verges of butter‑yellow grass sweep down to the water, painted in quick lime and olive strokes that ripple like fur in a breeze. At the top of the slope a telegraph pole stands sentinel, wires faintly suggested against a soft, tea‑stained sky, hinting at the faint hum of distant connection in an otherwise timeless place. The dwelling itself is cheery as you like—walls the colour of fresh shortbread, roof trimmed Loch‑blue, windows picked out with dabs of forget‑me‑not. Behind it, dark spruces form a polite queue, framing the scene while a twist of river flashes cobalt beneath the bridge’s pale granite arch. You can almost catch the clatter of bicycles on gravel and the splash of a spaniel bombing into the shallows. It’s the Highlands on a mid‑July afternoon: warm resin scents, bee buzz, and that irresistible promise of a paddle before the kettle goes on.
