What to Do with Cards After You’ve Received Them
We’ve all done it — popped a card on the mantel, admired it for a few weeks, then quietly slid it into a drawer (or worse, the bin) once the dust gathered. But greeting cards are more than quick pick-me-ups. They’re wee time capsules, and with a bit of thought, they can be part of your life long after the occasion’s passed.
Keep a memory box
Cards are snapshots of who you were and who cared enough to write. Tuck them into a simple box — old shoe boxes work grand — and on a rainy day, have a rummage. It’s surprising how many forgotten smiles live there.
Frame the keepers
Some cards are mini artworks, especially the ones splashed with Scottish landscapes or quirky illustrations. Pop them in a frame, hang them on a wall, and let them brighten your days all over again.
Reuse or repurpose
If you’re a crafty sort, old cards make brilliant gift tags, bookmarks, or even fresh cards by cutting and pasting. It’s thrifty, eco-friendly, and means that lovely design gets a second outing.
Or just keep them visible
No law says cards must be tidied away. Clip them to a string, stick them on a pinboard, or leave a small rotating gallery on the hall table. It’s a gentle way to stay connected to folk who thought enough to send a bit of joy your way.
